Exploring The Aran Islands

Currarevagh House enjoys a central location that is ideal for guests wanting to explore the region and visit the Aran Islands.

Ferries depart Rossaveal at 10.30am - best to book at peak times but usualy not a problem, so dpeart Currarevagh by 9.30am and you have plenty of time to catch the boat. Ferries then return at 4.00 and 5.00pm, you can take whichever suits you. This is very much a 'dry day' activity, there's not much / any cover on the islands. The islands can get extremely busy at peak times of the year, like all tourist hotspots.

Rich in the language, culture and heritage of Ireland, the Aran Islands provide a popular day trip from Currarevagh.

Comprising of three islands, Inis Mor, Inis Meain, and Inis Oirr (literally translated, not very creatively, as the “big island”, the “middle island”, and the “south island” respectively), they are situated in Galway Bay and can be reached by ferry from Rossaveal, a 30 minute drive from us.

A fascinating tradition of Irish culture has existed on the islands for thousands of years, with ancient monuments and prehistoric stone forts of particular interest. Coupled with the timeless natural landscape weathered by wild seas, and dramatic cliffs are the meandering stone walls and quiet beaches.

Not to be missed!
